The "Phenomenal" Impact of a Whole-School Reading Programme

We are thrilled to share this powerful video case study from a school that has seen "phenomenal" results with Lexonic. Principal Mark Tudor was looking for a reading programme that could support learners all the way through the school and enhance their ability to access the full curriculum. After implementing Lexonic, the impact was clear.

Watch the video below to hear directly from the Principal, staff, parents, and students about their transformative journey.

A Closer Look at the Impact

Designed for the Reality of a Busy School

One of the biggest hurdles for any intervention is the timetable. As KS4 English Lead Ali Kirk explains, time is "really precious in schools". The Lexonic programme was a perfect fit because it's a "fixed, effective short amount of time" that is "really intensive." This meant learners could make rapid, powerful progress without compromising key curriculum time in their other subjects, creating a true "win-win" for staff and students.

Unlocking the Language of Every Subject

The impact of this new, shared language for literacy quickly spread beyond the English department. For Geography Teacher Oliver Millington, it provided a powerful new way to teach the complex, subject-specific "tier three vocabulary" his students need to succeed, using the Lexonic Vocabulary (now Wordology) online tool in his classroom.

He explains that previously, new words were taught in isolation, “here's a word, the definition, and then we would move on." Now, the focus is on breaking words down into parts. The real power of this method, he explains, is that students can then apply this morphemic knowledge to other words they encounter. This creates a consistent, school-wide approach where learners are not just memorising definitions, but are actively learning how to deconstruct and understand new language for themselves.

A Transformation in Confidence

Ultimately, the most powerful story is the human one. It's what HLTA Julie Hayes describes as seeing students "come in with their shoulders down and then... walking out with their head up high".

This transformation is echoed by the parents. “The change in him since the programme is unreal. He's confident. He wants to come to school... even sit and do his homework… he’ll just sit there with me and read the Harry Potter books... it just fills your heart with pride”.

The students feel the difference themselves. "It became... natural to me to know the meanings of other words," says Kayla, who found the skills helped her read aloud with more confidence in class.
