Empower Her: A More Literate and Equal World

What does your Sunday involve? A browse of the news, a visit to a restaurant, a drive to family, the collection of that shopping order, or the completion of that important healthcare form?

Whatever the demands on you today – literacy underpins your ability to make these life activities happen.

Literacy is more than the capacity to read and write. It’s the key that unlocks opportunities, experiences, connection, independence, and empowerment. It’s not a privilege but a fundamental human right.

At Lexonic, we believe that nobody should be limited because they can't read, and we reaffirm our commitment to making literacy accessible to all in the spirit of International Literacy Day.

Literacy as Empowerment

The UK government’s International Women and Girls’ Strategy emphasises the importance of girls’ education, but it doesn't always address educating women. Mothers’ Union, in their "Empower Her" campaign, works to ensure we prioritise women’s education, regardless of their age, so that no woman is left behind.

We applaud that commitment and see it as so aligned with our vision and values.

Aligning with Global & Partner Missions

The theme for International Literacy Day, as stated by UNESCO, is ‘promoting multilingual education: literacy for mutual understanding and peace’.

Privileged as we are to travel the world teaching our Lexonic programmes, we recognise the role literacy does (and needs to) play in different parts of the globe.

We seek a world where the life-changing power of literacy tears down barriers and ensures people can succeed and thrive, regardless of race, gender, faith, or financial capacity. Today’s reminder of the power of literacy, and its significance in bringing communities and countries together, is at the heart of our mission.
